Records were not kept until the Buswell's third reunion
on July 9, 1939. At this gathering, it was decided to meet every
year on the second Sunday in August. The first President was Alfred
Clark and the first Secretary and Historian was Violet Buswell.
Violet took care of the records from 1939 to August 1955, when Iva
Ogren was elected as Secretary and Historian. Iva still holds the
Historian position.
The reunions were held in many of the homes at first and then gathered
at different parks at Gowrie, Fort Dodge, and Jefferson, Iowa. Then
after being drenched by rain at the 1950 Buswell reunion, it was
held at the Woman's Club House in Jefferson from 1950 to 1968. The
1969 Buswell reunion met at the home of Donald and Betty Buswell
(the original homestead of John Henry Buswell). The 1970 Buswell
reunion was held at the home of Corwin and Helen Dudley in Rockwell
City, Iowa. As of 1971, the Buswell reunions are held at Spring
Lake Park, northeast of Jefferson, Iowa.
The Buswell reunions are still held on the second Sunday in August.
The Oregon Buswells also have a gathering every year on the first
Sunday in September.
